Stefan J. Erwin has been admitted to the bar in New York, New Jersey, and the United States District Courts. He graduated from Rutgers University in 2009, with two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice. He earned his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law in 2012.
While in law school, Stefan was accepted into the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project fellowship and led a community gardening initiative for low-income Camden residents, which was recognized by National Jurist Magazine in 2011. He interned with Hon. Noel L. Hillman of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Upon graduation, he clerked for the Hon. James Hely in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, where he was also appointed by the Supreme Court as a court-appointed mediator.
He then chose the path of the Public Defender. Initially assigned to the Special Hearings Unit as a managing attorney, he was one of four attorneys who provided statewide representation of low-income individuals in post-conviction civil proceedings, including Megan's Law and Community/Parole Supervision for Life matters. He later transferred to the Monmouth County Trial Unit, where he defended individuals charged with serious felonies including but not limited to arson, aggravated assault, white collar crime, sexual assault, child pornography, theft, robbery, burglary, eluding, unlawful possession of a weapon, distribution or possession of drugs, terroristic threats, and violations of probation.
After leaving the public sector, Mr. Erwin represented New Jersey's largest cities, including Newark, Paterson, Jersey City, and East Orange, in complex civil litigation concerning civil rights and civil liberties, police misconduct, employment law, and personal injury. He then joined a firm concentrating in commercial litigation, sharpening his civil litigation practice. He later served as a C-level executive for a multi-state cannabis operator, where he handled business formation and organization.
Mr. Erwin has been Managing Member of this Practice since 2023. He also serves as a Prosecutor for Union Township in New Jersey, prosecuting DUIs, motor vehicle violations, and criminal actions. He sits on the New Jersey Supreme Court's District IX Fee Arbitration Committee.
Mr. Erwin was included in the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for 2025 and 2026, two years running.
